[ Pdf Story of The Ghost à space PDF ] by Charles Mahoney â After reading the summary, I expected a completely different story going into this book But wow, what a pleasant surprise I thought it was going to be a sports story about a kid who plays football, but this story was so much than that This book may say it s a sports novel, but it s contemporary literature at its finest Don t let that scare you away either because this book is absolutely worth the read I have an English degree, so I m no stranger to reading dense literature But man, I really liked this book It was slow to start, but it introduced a mystery of what s really going on that persists through the entire novel We follow Gavin, a teenager struggling to find his way on his own, as he meets various people that each affect his life in a different way I loved Sandis and felt like he truly cared for Gavin, almost like a surrogate father I also loved Walt and his circle talking ways Such unique characters Every part of this book was absolutely full of personality Every sentence of narration, every piece of dialogue It s just all amazing There is such rich detail and description that never lets up, never lets the reader be anywhere else other than immersed in the story The style is lyrical in the way that contemporary literature tends to be, which some readers like and some readers don t I absolutely appreciate it when it s done well, as it is here And the dialogue Each character had their own voice, even as they all entwined in these philosophical, existential moments again and again There is just so much meat here that I want to read it again to find everything I missed before So much symbolism and subtext in everything, from what the characters do and say, or don t say, a lot like Hemingway who is one of my favorite classic writers Kudos for that, Mahoney, I rarely love anyone as much as Hemingway.
I kind of can t say much about how much I loved and enjoyed this story Watching the drama and tragedy unfold in an almost non linear manner, watching the details and hints of mystery leave clues that are never fully realized by the end And gosh that end, what a shocker I had no idea what was coming, which is a rarity for me That may frustrate some readers, but I think it s part of this story s charm, part of the beauty of the whole piece That this book does something different, where the story doesn t match up perfectly, just like in real life But I happen to enjoy slice of life stories anyway, where we see snippets of people s lives, and events unfold seemingly out of nowhere yet produce the most resonating moments in the characters and readers lives.
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves contemporary literature with interesting characters and a unique outcome It s fresh in a way I haven t encountered since my English degree schooldays, and I hope people will give this one a fair shot because they will not be disappointed It may not be for everyone in terms of style, but that s another awesome facet of this story, so give it a try, stick with it till the end I promise this story will captivate you and leave you thinking about it long after you finish Amazing debut Truly, this author is something special, and I will be looking forward to Mahoney s next work.
I received this book for an hones review.
